Most often referred to as a cruise port, Galveston, TX is also a nice vacation spot. Galveston Island offers an assortment of attractions to tourist. A beach of over 30 miles promises numerous water attractions. Although the beach and cruise port are both major attractions, Galveston has so much more to offer.
Water Park
Perhaps you like water sports and fun but you are not really looking forward to kicking sand out of your sandals. Schlitterbahn Waterpark in Galveston promises a day full of aquatic fun! The water park features a wave pool,
water slides, uphill water coasters, a Boogie bahn surf ride and much more! This water park is also known as the number one indoor water park in America! With the park being indoors, that guarantees heated water fun for tourists during the winter months. How can you beat that?!
Boat Tours
Ferry rides are very popular in cities that are on large bodies of water. Galveston just so happens to be one of those cities! Galveston Island Ferry is one of the city’s biggest attractions! The ferry rides are about 15 to 20 minutes long and absolutely free!
History/Museum
Back in 1900, a hurricane hit Galveston killing about 6000 people. The Pier 21 is a theater that features “The Great Storm” a documentary about these events. Perhaps you are not interested in hearing about the hurricane, Galveston offers an alternative. Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig & Museum is a learning center and museum that is filled with real offshore drilling equipment, exhibits and videos.
As you can see Galveston offers a variety of things to keep you occupied on a vacation. Perhaps you are just not enthused by hurricanes, water parks and ferry rides. Galveston is also a cruise port for Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Princess Cruise Lines.
