Travel News:Is going green cheating you?
These days everyone is going green. From banks to water companies, many are encouraging consumers to go paperless and handle their accounts online. Travel companies are also going greeen. One big difference in regard to the travel companies, is the lack of communication. Airlines, for instance, are eliminating paper statements. Not only are airlines eliminating paper statesments but they are also sending out fewer notifications.
Many travelers are receiving a rude awakening when planning travel. Airlines have ceased notifying travelers of important account terms. For example, flights are requiring more frequent flyer miles and frequent flyer miles are now expiring without notice. More than likely, this change and effort to go green is also the result of the current state of the economy.
With that being said, we must do the following to make sure we are not being cheated by airlines and other companies “going green”:
1. Make No Assumptions. When booking travel, make sure to ask as many questions as possible. Remember there is no such thing as a stupid question. Nevermind that you booked a flight last week for 20K miles, inquire while making reservations to ensure there have been no changes.
2. Double Check you terms. Although the airline agent will go over your terms with you, make sure you take the time to actually read them. People all make mistakes. Ensure you have the correct information before confirming any reservations.
3. ALWAYS read the fine print. We are all aware of the fine print. Make sure you read it. Most times it is fine for a reason.

Fun and FREE: Things to Do for Free in San Francisco
If you are traveling to San Francisco, California there are attractions everyone must visit. But what are some attractions you can visit for free? That’s right, I said free! First, an obvious choice is the Golden Gate Bridge. Although not the largest, longest or tallest bridge in the world, it is perhaps the most recognizable. Unlike its sister, the Bay Bridge which connects San Francisco to the East Bay, pedestrians and bicyclists are welcome. And there is no toll. However, if you are driving into the city expect to pay a hefty toll of 6 dollars. Someone has to pay for the maintenance of this majestic structure, right?
A second attraction you can visit in San Francisco for free is Lombard St. This street prides itself as being the most crooked street in the world. Cars drive down this street just for fun, and why not? There isn’t quite anything else like it. If you desire to become famous, living on the crooked section of Lombard St. might be the place to do it. Tourists abound taking pictures from every angle. It’s like having a paparazzi outside your door at all hours of the day!
Another attraction worth visiting is Fisherman’s Wharf. It’s a tourists dream and one of the most visited attractions in the United States. Along Pier 39 a grouping of Sea Lions can permanently be seen along the docks swimming, playing, and enjoying being the center of attention. It is also the site of many entertaining street performers looking to make an extra buck. Watching is free, although they do hope for gratuities. Watch out for Bush Man though! He is a homeless man that makes his living scaring people in a bush consume. No not our former President! It’s just a shrub bush I’m afraid.
As you can imagine with a city as large as San Francisco, it has some incredible museums. Normally the cost to enter these museums can be quite high. Expect to pay 25 dollars at the California Academy of Sciences on a normal day. However once a month many of the cities top museums offer a free day including the California Academy of Sciences, Exploratorium, Asian Art Museum and the Legion of Honor.
This list just scrapes the surface of free activities you can do while in San Francisco. Who says you can’t get anything for free?

5 Proven Methods to Make Preparation For a Family Vacation a Breeze
Preparing for a family vacation can be a stressful task, especially if you have young children. The key to packing is to be organized and to reduce clutter, so that an item is easily accessible and takes up as little space as possible. Over the years, I have come up with these 5 proven methods that have made packing fast and stress free.
Come up with a packing list (for each family member) of all the items that I need to pack for the vacation. I write the list in excel spreadsheet so that I can copy and paste, etc, easily and can reuse and modify the list when I go on the next vacation. Number the list, and make it into a checklist form, so that you can check every item off when you finish packing.
Organize the luggage such that you can easily find what you need. Categorize the luggage by person. For example, parents share one luggage, baby has one luggage, etc. Rather than – all the towels one luggage, all the pajamas one luggage, etc. This also means using 2 or 3 luggage rather than one big luggage for the whole family. This also makes loading and unloading of luggage easier. Preferably, the children’s are wheeled luggage so that the bigger children can wheel the luggage around themselves. This makes them feel important.
Roll the clothes. When packing your clothes into the luggage, roll them up instead of folding them. This will safe a lot of space, as well as prevents the clothes from becoming creased. It also helps when you’re trying to look for a particular item in the luggage when you are at your holiday destination. You can easily find the item when your clothes are all rolled up.
Have a separate (smaller) luggage just for all the toiletries, and put the toiletries into different pouches according to their categories. For example, the tooth brushes and tooth pastes go into one pouch, the shampoos and shower gel go into another, and so forth.
Use a car trunk organizer to put all the food items that you plan to bring on your trip. This way, you can organize your food items and make them more accessible, rather than having to dig through your tot bag or something.
Enjoy your holiday!
